Recent evidence has shown that integrins present on tumor cells or tumor-associated stromal cells are involved in ECM remodeling, and as mechanotransducers sensing changes in the biophysical properties of the ECM, which contribute to cancer metastasis, stemness and drug resistance. As a type of transmembrane protein, integrin-mediated cell adhesion is essential in regulating various biological functions of cancer cells. The crosstalk between cancer cells and their microenvironment triggers a variety of critical signaling cues and promotes the malignant phenotype of cancer. I hope to apply this technique to identify new biomarkers in cancers and premalignant tissues (in vivo and in vitro).ġ. I have found that QDs-IHC is a very sensitive and specific method in detecting some micro-levels of proteins and factors in oral tissue. I have also investigated the role of caveolin-1 in tongue cancer including expression arrays of normal, dysplastic and carcinoma tissue by Quantum dots. I have investigated the role of HPV in squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue, by using a new technology (QDs immunohistochemistry). I have been mainly engaged in the study of pathology of diseases, particularly trying to understand mechanisms of progression and invasion of oral cancer. Our goals of tumor research are to identifying these molecular targets or markers. Certain aspects of tumor pathophysiology are marked by characteristic increased or decreased expression of some proteins. Determination of the expression and spatial distribution of molecular epitopes, or antigens, in patient tissue specimens has substantially improved the pathologist's ability to classify disease processes. Although molecular cell biology has substantially advanced cancer research, the mechanism remains unclear.
